The Kiva borrower is a 25-year-old married woman from Lebanon. She has many years of experience working with mobile phones. She began as an employee in a mobile phone shop and opened her own store four years ago. She got married recently and she is planning to have a child with her husband after improving her life situation. Today, she is requesting to borrow $1,200 from Kiva partner Ameen s.a.l. to improve her shop by adding new décor and adding new merchandise consisting of new mobile phones and rechargeable cards to her shop. The majority of mobile phone users in Lebanon purchases these prepaid cards; it is less common to have an annual phone contract. In the future, she is looking to further expand her business and increase her capital.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
