Mr. Carmelo Z., a small-time farmer in the El Banco region of the municipality of Rama, is married to Mrs. Justina Flores. They have four children: 42 year old Santos, 40 year old Abelardo, and 30 year old Francisca, who are already married and have families of their own. They still live with the youngest child, Darvis, who is 28 years old. He helps them to work the land and to care for the farm.
He is asking for his 6th loan with the objective of buying a stud bull, which will allow him to better the quality of his cattle, and allow him to obtain better earnings, which in turn will allow him to better his family’s quality of life. It should be mentioned that he has previously been a beneficiary of Kiva funds. With those funds he succeeded in establishing 3 “manzanas” (land units of 7000 square meters each) of rice, which he has harvested and sold and obtained the earnings he was hoping for.
His greatest dream is to be able to increase his livestock inventory and to provide his family with better living conditions, since they mean the world to him.
