Shamaddin A. is 52 and has sold men clothing for the last four years. He is married and has two sons. He works in the Agsu region and buys clothes in Baku city, two hours away. He was able to increase his income owing to a KIVA loan which he has already successfully repaid. Now he has applied for 1000 AZN to purchase new seasonal clothes to increase his profit.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
