Peter is a farmer from Nyamira town in western Kenya. He has been practicing mixed farming for 25 years and employs five farmhands. His mixed farm produces tea, milk and maize which are all sold locally. He also earns income from his shop which he operates in the same region. His biggest challenge in farming has been lack of enough animal feed.
He has requested this loan of 45,000KES through Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. The extra income from this loan will help him pay school fees for his child in school. In the future he would like to purchase more agricultural land to expand his farm.
Peter is 54 years old. He is married with seven children who are between the ages of 26 and 35. His youngest child is currently attending school.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
