Mujeres Con Proposito 2 & 3 Group
In this Group: Lidia, Maria, Miguelina, Leidiana, Jeanette, Ernestora, Evarista, Lourdes, Luistomas, Susana
Lidia is a member of the group named 'Mujeres con Propositos' 2 & 3 (Women with Purpose). Her story is representative of both her group and of Esperanza's Haitian (many of whom have recently immigrated to the DR) and Dominican clients. The group is based in Puerto Plata, a community with unreliable electricity and water services. The community does not have access to some basic services like trash collection.

Lidia is a mother of five children, of whom two still live at home together with her long-term partners. This will be Lidia's third loan with Esperanza. She has successfully repaid two loans of increasing amounts and wants to use this loan to buy different products for her miscellaneous sales business. She plans to buy perfumes, body lotion, cosmetic products, bed linens and others. She hopes to continue to grow her business with this loan.

Lidia has been able to provide for her children and improve what she can provide for them since receiving loans from Esperanza. She has also used her profit to save, because she wants to have a locale for her business, and be successful. In this way she hopes to make her dreams come true, which are to give her children the opportunity to have everything she didnĀ“t, for example attend the university and have their own home.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
