Eldar Q. is 48-year-old married man with three children. He raises seasonal fruits and vegetables and sells them. The biggest problem Eldar faces is that pests have affected his crops, and he does not have enough money to deal with the problem. He has been working in agriculture for eight years. He is requesting this loan in order to use it for his crops, thus thwarting losses. Agriculture is his family’s source of income. For this reason, Eldar applied for 1000 AZN. He already has successful loan history with AqroInvest and KIVA.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
