María Magdalena
Mrs. María P. is a member of the “El Paraíso” (Paradise) communal bank. She lives in the community of Confianza, Cumbe parish. One can find large pasture areas of cattle ranches and romantic old haciendas in her surroundings. The Cumbe parish center is arranged around a central plaza noted for conserving its traditional architecture which is reflected in the two story houses. Most of the residents are farmers and cattlemen.

María, 54, was widowed 24 years ago. She has three adult children who live independently. From her second marriage she has 7 children, the two oldest are married and live independently and the five single children work and contribute to household expenses. Through her work she has managed to build her house. Her second husband is a farmer.

María raises chickens, guinea pigs and pigs for later sale in her own community. She is also a farmer. Most of what she grows is for her own consumption; just a very small part of it is sold.

She is the founding member of the communal bank and the loans have benefited her business. The new loan will be used to buy pigs and feed for them.

Her goal is to have more animals.

La Señora María P. es socia del banco comunal El Paraíso, vive en la comunidad de la Confianza en la parroquia de Cumbe, En su entorno se encuentran, entre grandes pastos de fincas ganaderas, románticas haciendas viejas. El centro parroquial de Cumbe está organizado en torno a la plaza central y se caracteriza por conservar parte de su arquitectura tradicional, la cual se ve reflejada en las casas de dos plantas, su gente se dedica agricultura y ganadería.

Doña María tiene de 54 años, es viuda hace 24 años, tiene 3 hijos que son mayores y viven independientes. De su segundo compromiso tiene 7 hijos, sus dos primeros hijos son casados y viven independientes, sus 5 hijos solteros trabajan y ayudan a la economía de la casa. Con su trabajo ha logrado construir su casa propia. Su esposo se dedica a la agricultura.

La Señora María se dedica a la cría de gallinas, cuyes y cerdos a los que los vende en su propia comunidad, también se dedica a la agricultura, lo que cultiva es para su consumo y solo una mínima parte es para la venta.

Es nuestra socia fundadora de la banca comunal y los créditos le han beneficiado en su negocio. Su nuevo crédito lo va a invertir en la compra de unos cerdos y en su alimento.
