Long's Group
In this Group: Long, Uork, Uork, Uok
The four people shown in the photograph are low-income residents of Siem Reap Province, Cambodia who are jointly requesting a loan. Mrs. Long R., 43, has been selected as leader by the other group members. Long R. and her husband have been operating a fishing business in and around the Tunle Sap River for more than 10 years, earning an average of $6 per day. This income enables them to support and pay the school fees of their school-aged child. Due to the coming rising water and fishing season, the river is full of fish, but Long lacks equipment to fish and so is requesting a loan.

There are three other borrowers in this group who have requested a loan as follows:
Mrs. L., a fishing equipment seller, is asking for a loan to expand her business;
Mrs. L., a fisherwoman, is asking for a loan to buy a machine to support her fishing business;
Mrs. L., a fisherwoman, is asking for a loan to buy fish nets.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
