Mbijiwe is 32 years old and a single mother of 3 children ages, 6 years and 5 months old twins. Her eldest child attends school. She is a farmer from Nkubu town in eastern Kenya. She has been farming for eight years and employs 4 farmhands. Her mixed farm produces milk, maize, beans and potatoes which are sold to the local market.
She has requested this loan of 47,700 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase and insure a dairy cow. She says the income from the sale of milk will enable her pay school fees for her child and take care of her children. Her major challenges are diseases, poor market for her products and unreliable labor. In future, she plans to acquire two more dairy cows that will improve her milk production.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
