The young woman in the photograph is Srey T., age 29, who lives in the province of Kompong Chhnang, which is the best territory for farming. Srey T. is a married woman. Srey T. owns a big farm that she inherited from her grandmother. She and her husband are local farmers who have spent almost their whole life in the fields. They are able to plant crops at least twice a year by following both rainy and dry seasons. This rainy season, she doesn’t have funds yet to use on her farm. So, Srey T. is looking for a loan to buy fertilizer for her farm.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
