This group is named "Esmeraldas of San Francisco" (San Francisco Emeralds). The group chose the name since it's a very beautiful stone and it is motivating since they're considered valuable people for each of their families.

The group is located in Atlacomulco, Mexico. It is a community that is distinguished by being very responsible and of moral quality. Additionally, it is a group that is very aware of the constant changing nature of the economy and they always request what they can repay. Andrea E. is one of the members of the group. She is 41 years old, is married and has a 10 year old son. She finished elementary school, but notes that, unfortunately, she couldn't continue her education because of the responsibility she acquired in her home and with her family. Currently, she is dedicated to sewing and selling plastic items. Her sewing is very good quality and is the product that stands out most from everything she sells due to the fact that few people are dedicated to this type of work because of the time required. Despite this, Andrea likes her work and considers it to be the foundation for her to sell day after day and get ahead.

Andrea's goal in requesting this loan is to gradually grow her business and, from the income she obtains, to help her son finish his education since she was never able to do so due to the shortcomings of her life.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
