Geoffry is a dairy farmer from Litein town in Rift Valley, Kenya. He has been farming for the last three years and employs one farmhand. He sells his milk to the local market. He also earns income from his small-scale farming of tea, which he sells locally.
Geoffry is 36 years old and married with two children, ages 3 and 7. Both children attend school.
Geoffry has requested this loan of 70,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a dairy cow. The extra income from this loan will go towards the education of his children. His biggest challenge has been lack of enough animal feeds. Despite this challenge, he hopes to acquire a pure dairy breed and build a dairy unit in the future. He says that he is happy with the way Juhudi operates.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
