At times he faces challenges because the plants die from a disease that is called "el machete."

Lider es un socio de la ventanilla rural Progreso Comunitario, que está ubicada a dos horas de Chillanes. Son 11 socios en total, que en la mayoridad se dedican al cultivo de cacao o tienen sus propios pequeños negocios.

A Lider se dedica al cultivo de cacao y cría chanchos. Realiza las compras de sus productos en Babahoyo y las ventas de sus productos en Mata de Cacao. Solicita el crédito para mejorar el cacao y comprar más chanchos. Con el apoyo del préstamo podría mejorar sus cultivos. Su sueno es mejorar su vivienda. A veces se desafía por las plantas que se mueren por una enfermedad que se llama ¨el machete.¨
