Rusaria is a fifty-seven-year-old widowed mother of 9 children between 15 and 30. Two of the children are currently attending school. She is a farmer from Kisii town in western Kenya. She has been farming for the last 10 years. Her farm produces tea, bananas, beans, maize, and tomatoes which are sold both locally and through Kenya Tea Development Authority. She also earns income from the sale of clothes at the local market.
Rusaria has requested this loan of 45,000KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase a dairy cow that will increase her milk production and improve her family's health. Her biggest challenge is disease which affects her production. She hopes that in five years time, she will be able to acquire at least 6 quality cows.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
