In this Group: Silvia Patricia, Erika , Apolonio Alejandro , Maria Elena , Santos Hilario
Ms. Silvia Patricia H. L. is a married woman. She is an artisan who concentrates on making plastic baskets. With the goal of increasing her working capital, she decided to request a group loan. Her group [the "Fuente de Sabiduría, or "Fountain of Wisdom" Group] is made up of five members who are looking to succeed. All of them have been working for many years. In particular, some work as artisans making plastic baskets, for which they use long-lasting materials like plastic thread and plastic tape. This benefits those who buy the baskets because they do not have to buy plastic bags all the time, and at the same time it contributes to the environment by not further deteriorating our planet.

The other members of this group work raising animals like chickens and pigs. Others work in agriculture, planting corn and beans. In order to increase their working capital and improve their quality of life, they are requesting a loan from the Integral Rural Development Association (ASDIR).

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
