Belinda L. is from the village of Calaocan, Cauayan City, Isabela. She is 40 years old. Belinda is the group leader of a nine-member group loan offered by ASKI. While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are all collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults.

Belinda is married and has three school-aged children. To make a living, Belinda raises pigs for fattening and sale. Belinda is just starting this business.

In 2010, Belinda joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Belinda is requesting a new loan of 5,000 Philippine pesos (PHP), which will be used to purchase livestock feed and other supplies. This will be the first loan taken out by Belinda from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to supplement her family's income.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
