Ernesto
Ernesto is 37 years old and lives with his wife and 2 children in a community called Coquital de Alajuela. This community is noteworthy for its mountains and for being very close to the northern frontier of our country.

Ernesto has a small landholding in which he has sown different crops, including potatoes and plantains. For 7 years he has planted ñame, a tuber with an agreeable flavor, rich in nutrients, widely processed and in great demand in Costa Rica and in other countries. With this business, he has improved the quality of life of his family.

At present, Ernesto is soliciting a loan of 604,000 colons to help him in preparing the soil, buying seeds and fertilizers, among other supplies, that are necessary to guarantee optimal sowing of ñame.

Ernesto is part of the Empresa de Crédito Comunal Rapicrédito Progreso Futuro Coquital, one of the 100 member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be his first credit, and he is certain that his business will generate grand earnings.

Ernesto S. M. es un señor de 37 años de edad el cual vive con su esposa y dos hijos en una comunidad llamada Coquital de Alajuela; está comunidad se destaca por ser una zona montañosa y por estar muy cerca de la frontera norte de nuestro país.
Don Ernesto tiene un pequeño terreno en el cual ha sembrado diferentes cultivos tales como papa y plátano, el tiene 7 años de sembrar ñame, un tubérculo de agradable sabor, rico en nutrientes, de procesamiento agroindustrial amplio y de gran demanda tanto en Costa Rica como en otros países. Con este negocio ha mejorado la calidad de vida de su familia
Actualmente Don Ernesto está solicitando un préstamo de ¢604,000 (seiscientos cuatro mil colones) para ayudarse con la preparación del suelo, compra de semillas, fertilizantes, entre otros insumos que sean necesarios para garantizar la siembra óptima del ñame.
El forma parte de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal Rapicrédito Progreso Futuro Coquital, una de las 100 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Este será su primer crédito, y está seguro que su negocio va a generar grandes Frutos.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
