Samwel is a dairy farmer who lives in Litein town in Rift Valley, Kenya. For the last 16 years, he has made a living managing a farm and now employs two people. He generates income by selling milk and maize in the local market.
Samwel is 49 years old, married and has five children who are between the ages of 5 and 18. All of his children currently attending school.
Samwel recently repaid his second loan from Juhudi Kilimo. Now he is applying for a third loan, for 70,000 KES, to buy a cow. He says that the extra income made possible by this loan will help him pay his children's school fees. His main challenge at the moment is securing enough feed for his animals.
He is grateful to Juhudi for the help it has provided.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
