Mrs. Ham Y. has been spending almost her entire life raising crops and a few animals to make a profit. She is married and has four children, one of whom is already married and lives away from home and the other three are single. Her husband works in the farm fields frequently alongside her.
Ham Y. has a single son who needs a partner in his wife, but he requires money to make a wedding party. Because he doesn’t have money yet, Mrs. Ham Y. has decided to pursue a loan to be used to spend on a wedding party for her son.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
