Mrs. Heng S. is a 30-year-old married woman living in a medium-sized home with family members in Phnom Penh City. Heng uses a piece of farmland she inherited many years ago from her grandparents to grow a variety of crops, receiving help in the planting from her husband. She will use half of the loan she is requesting to grow crops, and the rest will be put towards buying a used pumping machine for her field.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
