Mrs. Buth R. is a 31-year-old farmer who lives in Phnom Penh city. Buth R. is married to Heng Hun, age 28. This couple, who work together in the farming business, have four children. All of them are dependent on the family income. In addition, Buth R.’s husband takes time to work in the construction sector. In view of the coming growing season, Buth R. wants to increase her crops to sell them when they have matured. As she lacks money to use on her field, Buth R. has decided to request a loan from Kiva to be used towards planting rice crops.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
