Rose is 39 years old and a married mother of four children (aged 21 years, 13 years, 8 years, and 9 months). The middle two are in school. Rose is a barber at the Tukutane Kinyozi (barber shop), which is located at a very busy 'matatu' (bus) stop in Nairobi. Rose has been in the business for 7 years. Previously, she worked as a housekeeper for the small income of 3,000 Kenyan Shillings a month (about $38 dollars).
Rose describes herself as very hardworking and determined, and she hopes to have a well established barber shop and salon. She has previously taken out one or the other loan from Faulu Kenya, and since becoming a client, Rose says she she has been able to buy more razors and has also been able to educate her children in high school. She dreams of buying a plot of land for her family in the future.
