Lubys Gertrudis, Lisset Carolina, and Margarita make up the solidarity group “Guadalupe”. All of them have different business activities. Lisset has been selling cosmetics for more than five years. She started this business out of her own initiative and spends her time managing it. Lisset enjoys her business and finds it to be a wonderful experience because she gets to interact with her customers.


Lubys sells clothing, while the other member Margarita has been selling candy for more than three years. They started their businesses because they did not have a salary by which they could support their children.


Lisset has always been a very responsible woman, and together with her friends, decided to obtain a loan so that they could buy merchandise for their businesses since they now have many orders.

Lubys Gertrudis, Lisset Carolina y Margarita conforman el grupo solidario Guadalupe. Ambas tienen diferentes actividades económicas. Lisset se dedica a la venta de cosméticos, hace más de 5 años que tiene este negocio pues fue por iniciativa propia y así con el paso del tiempo es que le ha gustado estar con esta actividad que para ella ha sido muy provechosa esta experiencia ha sido maravillosa para ella al interactuar con sus clientes. En el caso de lubys se dedica a la venta de ropa. Otra integrante es Margarita que se dedica a la venta de golosinas hace mas de 3 años, sus inicios fueron por cuenta propia pues no tenía un salario para ayudar a sus hijos, por lo que siempre ha sido una mujer muy responsable y junto a sus amigas han decido realizar un financiamiento para comprar la materia prima necesaria para sus negocios pues hasta los momentos tienen muchos encargos.

This loan is administered by Fundación Leon 2000. Fundación Leon 2000 began operations in 1993 as the first microfinance institution to serve the western part of Nicaragua, a country which continues to be one of the poorest in the western hemisphere. Fundación Leon 2000 works to further the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises through credit services and management, applying the best credit industry practices and technical expertise. Additionally, Fundación Leon manages several business and financial education programs in the community, specifically for young entrepreneurs and at-risk youth. Fundación Leon 2000’s group of experienced and dedicated employees works in 7 offices in Leon, Chinandega, Chichigalpa, Somotillo, Jinotepe, El Sauce, and Nagarote and serves several thousand clients (the majority of whom are women).

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
