Vilma
Vilma H. T. is a 24-year-old who lives with her husband in a community called Santa Fe, located in Los Chiles, in the Alajuela province. This community is known for being a mountainous area that is very close to the northern border of this country. Its main economic activities are stockbreeding and agriculture, particularly staple grains, sugar cane, and oranges.


Vilma is a dairy farmer, selling all types of products that are derived from milk. Her products are high-quality, and her business has always yielded great profits, but she needs to expand. For this reason, Ms. Vilma is requesting a ¢604.000 CRC loan so that she can purchase wire for her fence, and grass seed in order to reactivate production and to provide everything that her cows need in order give their best milk.


She is a member of the Crédito Comunal Manantial de Santa Fe company, one of the 100 organizations that have a partnership with EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be her first loan, and she is very happy because she is sure that this loan will allow her to keep doing what she likes while at the same time earning a living.

Vilma H. T. es una señora de 24 años de edad la cual vive con su esposo en una comunidad llamada Santa Fe localizada en Los Chiles, provincia de Alajuela; está comunidad se destaca por ser una zona montañosa y por estar muy cerca de la frontera norte de nuestro país. Sus principales actividades económicas son la ganadería y la agricultura específicamente se da la siembra de granos básicos, caña de azúcar, naranja.

El negocio de Vilma es la lechería, y todos los productos derivados de esta. Sus productos son de muy buena calidad, y este negocio siempre le ha dado buenos ingresos, pero necesita crecer.
Es por eso que Doña Vilma está solicitando un Crédito de ¢604.000 (seiscientos cuatro mil colones) para la compra de alambre para la cerca, alimento y semilla de pasto, para reactivar su producción nuevamente y que sus vaquitas tengan lo que necesitan para dar su mejor leche.

Ella es socia de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal Manantial de Santa Fe, una de las 100 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Este será su primer préstamo, y está muy feliz porque asegura que este préstamo le permitirá seguir haciendo lo a ella le gusta y generando ingresos a la misma vez.

As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
