The communal bank “Amigas de Villa Victoria” was formed in connection with the Santiago II Regional Office. This new group has eight members, 7 women and 1 man, headed by Doris as president.

Doris comments that it this is her first experience with our institution. Her brother was the one who invited her to become part of the association. The business she runs requires patience and time, because it is a neighborhood store. One great advantage is that the store is in her own home, and her daughter helps her with sales. She requested a loan with the objective of buying merchandise to stock her store. What she likes most about Pro Mujer is the training and the health clinic.

The “Amigas de Villa Victoria” communal bank has eight members who also have their own businesses. These include lingerie sales, blanket weaving, fruit sales, braiding and blanket weaving, meat sales, backpack making, and minibus service.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
