Benso 1 Group

The ten members of the Benso 1 group are married women on average 39 years old with three children. Most live in polygamous families in Maban, one of the villages belonging to the Dioïla Prefecture in the Koulokoro region, part of the 2nd administrative region of Mali.

They collaborate with the Soro Yiriwaso MFI to better organise their winter activities. Their cash crops are millet, peanuts and beans. This is their third farming loan and the two preceding ones have been duly repaid.

With this new loan Wassa T. intends to buy seeds and fertilizer, small farming equipment and pay laborers to cultivate approximately 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres) of millet and peanuts.

After harvesting the crops are sold in Dioïla to mainly retail merchants. She hopes to reach average earnings of 75,000 FCFA by the end of the farming season.

Les dix membres du groupe Benso 1 sont des femmes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de 39 ans et en moyenne 3 enfants. Elles vivent la plupart dans des familles polygames à Maban, un des villages de la préfecture de Dioïla, région de Koulikoro, 2ème région administrative du Mali.
Elles collaborent avec l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso dans le but de pouvoir mieux organiser leurs activités hivernales.
Les spéculations cultivées sont le petit mil, l’arachide et le haricot. Elles sont à leur troisième prêt de campagne et tous les deux prêts précédents ont été bien remboursés.
Avec ce nouveau prêt, WASSA T. compte acheter les intrants, les petits équipements et payer les frais de main d’œuvre pour entretenir environs 1,5 hectare de petit mil et d’arachide.
Les productions sont vendues au niveau de la ville de Dioïla après les récoltes à une clientèle composée de revendeurs.
Elle compte réaliser un bénéfice moyen de 75.000FCFA environ en fin de campagne.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.
