Stephen Ouma is a 27-year-old experienced furniture seller in Kibuye, a busy open air-market in the outskirts of Kisumu City. He is married to Lilian Ojwang, a housewife, and they have a five-month-old daughter. They live in Obunga estate, a low-income settlement in Kisumu. Ouma has been doing this business for the last three years and he has great plans to expand. He recently took out a loan from Kadet Ltd to buy more furniture for sale. His intention is to surpass his monthly income of Kshs 10,000 ($250). With the profits, he plans to pay his wife’s college fee because he wants to empower her through education. His dream is to continue working hard in his business to generate more income and improve his family’s living standards.
