Zeynab I. is a 40-year-old woman who breeds cattle and raises seasonal fruits and vegetables. Zeynab is married and has four children. She has 15 years of experience in breeding cattle. She buys small calves, raises and fattens them and then sells them for a profit. Her monthly income is 150-200 AZN. She would like to increase the number of cattle she has and for this purpose she applied for a loan of 1,000 AZN.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
