Amos is 23 years old and single. He is a farmer from Nkubu town in Eastern Kenya. He has been farming for the last year and sells his bananas to the local market. His biggest challenges in this business have been lack of fertilizers and insufficient water supply.
Amos has requested this loan from Juhudi Kilimo of 46,800KES to purchase and insure a dairy cow. He says that his income will increase through the sale of milk and this will enable him to expand his business.
In future, he plans to construct a better grazing shed and purchase two more dairy cows and employ one farm-hand. He is grateful to Juhudi for giving loans to farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
