Jane is 44 years old., married, and has three children ages 9, 16 and 20, all attending school. A farmer for the last 10 years from Nkubu town in Eastern Kenya, Jane has two employees, one permanent and one casual. Her farm produces cabbages, potatoes, beetroot and milk, all of which she sells to brokers. Her biggest challenges have been diseases, poor prices for her products and a lack of available labour.

Jane has an exemplary record with Juhudi Kilimo, having recently completed repayment of her second loan of 80,000KES. She is now requesting another loan of 80,000KES from Juhudi to purchase a dairy cow. Jane says that the income from this loan will enable her to pay school fees for her children and improve their heath since she will be able to provide them with enough milk.

In the future she expects to acquire six dairy cows, a goal that will help her to establish dairy farming as her major business.
