Las Sirenitas Group
In this Group:
Inés, Asuncion, Ines, Rita Mayra, Sara , Rosaelia, Ana Martha, Carmen, Ines, Aurelia
This group is called Las Sirenitas (The Mermaids) because the members of the group all come from the coast and they wanted a name that showed their connection to the sea.

Señora Inés L. H. is a member of the group. She is a single mother of two children, Eleazar aged 9 and Néstor Daniel aged 4. Her job is selling bed covers from a catalog. She chose this business because it fits in with family life, she doesn’t have to neglect her children, and the work is near where she lives. Inés believes it is a very good way of earning a living. The loan she receives will be used to buy more catalogs and merchandise such as sheets, quilts, baseboards, cushions, pillow covers, and perfumes.

Inés says that her business is greatly benefitting the people in her community since she gives them the chance to buy her products on a payment plan so they don’t have to be without money. They can buy what they need in installments.

Her dream is to see her children grow up and to be able to use the profits from her business to help them continue with their education and get good jobs so they will have a bright future.

Inés notes that the people in her group are confident, responsible, and very hardworking, and they have got to know each other well. She is grateful to the donors for putting their trust in these women who struggle to make ends meet every day.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
