Señorita Katherine is 19 years old, and is the president of the new "Las Exitosas" (The Successful) group. There are 10 women who are members and they all live in the Los Olivos district in the department of Lima.

She has a small business selling beauty products such as lipstick, nail varnish, perfume, creams etc. She also makes chocolates, originally for her friends, but word got around and her friends recommended her to new customers so that, little by little, her business grew. Most of her customers are young people. Her income allows her to cover her study and transport expenses, as she is studying tourism and hotel management in an institute.

She would like to invest this loan in the purchase of merchandise, particularly women's clothing, as she is already getting into this business and she would like to have a large shop some time in the future. She currently sells clothing from her house and door-to-door, but she would like to have somewhere to display her goods in order to increase her earnings.

* Katherine is the fourth woman standing on the left, wearing jeans and a black sweater.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
