This village bank loan has twenty-one people located in Krapeu Troum village in Kandal province. They will each use their loan to improve their business in this current year. Mr. V. V., who was born in 1955, has been selected as the village bank president.

Mr. V. V. and his wife, Mrs. Ken Lors, are farmers who own a one-hectare (2.5-acre) plot of land they use to cultivate rice, not to sell, but to raise their family. But now they have a problem because it’s time to grow a crop but they don’t have enough money to support it. So, to improve production, Mr. V. V. is asking for a loan with which to farm this year.

This couple raises seV. children, five of whom are seamstresses in a garment factory while the others are helping their parents to farm.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
