Mrs. Pov M., born in 1965, is a farmer who owns a small piece of land to cultivate rice – not to sell, but for her family. Aside from this, she is also a pig breeder, while her husband, Mr. Sophorl Chea, is a lumberjack. Now she has a problem because her field has infertile soil. So, to improve production, Mrs. Pov M. is seeking a loan to buy fertilizer. With the rest of the loan, she will buy gasoline and piglets, and rent a plow machine to plow her field. She is the mother of seven children: two are seamstresses in a garment factory, while another is helping the father do business, and the others are attending the local public school.

Eleven people make up this village bank and live in An Long Barang village in Kandal province. Mrs. Pov M. is the village bank president, selected by the other members. The members will use their portion of the loan in varied ways.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
