Kwaku is an honest young man who faces reality no matter what. He is married to a woman who is a petty trader with two children, ages one and six. He is now thirty years old. Kwaku lives together with his family in a town called Tarkwa, where he also does his trading. He is able to support his family through supplying vegetables and condiments like tomatoes, peppers, onions, garden eggs (small eggplants), etc. to retailers.

Supplying vegetables for the past three years, he has made quite many repeat and fresh customers through good customer relations. He plans to invest the loan to purchase 20 bags of garden eggs, 5 bags of peppers, and 10 boxes of tomatoes. He dreams of putting aside more savings to support his children to attain university education, build an accommodation for his family, and buy a vehicle to aid with distribution of his stock.

Kwaku is currently the leader of a trust bank group called 'Mercy', made up of six members. The other members are also engaged in foodstuff-selling, sewing, etc. Members of the group are natives of the same community who grew up together therefore they believe in co-guarantee, respect for one another, and commitment to the group.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
