Mrs. Morb L. currently weaves bamboo baskets for sale. She sells her finished product to buyers who come directly to her house. She makes over 100 sets of baskets before selling out. She also orders baskets from other villagers and sells them to make additional income. Her husband helps her buy the raw materials and weave baskets. Recently, Morb L. has run out of essential materials from her stock and hopes to acquire other raw materials to continue making baskets. She depends on using her Kiva loan as an advance. Morb L. is a 26-year-old married woman blessed with a school-aged child.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
