A loan of $725 helped purchase animals for resale to the local market.

Marcela's story

Marcela is 43, separated and lives with her two daughters ages 14 and 18 in the San Martin area of the city of Lambayeque, about 20 minutes from the city of Chiclayo. Separating from her husband drove her to to work to maintain her daughters.

She makes a living mainly through selling animals. Every Wednesday she travels to the rural communities in the area and buys poultry (ducks, turkeys) that she then resells to the meat sellers in the city market. She butchers the animals herself and sells them ready for resale. This business is her main source of income.

Another business is making and selling wine. She started this business two years ago thanks to the fact that her daughter learned the process in high school. Marcela ferments the beverage in plastic buckets and then sells it to neighbors and acquaintances.

Marcela has worked with Kiva before, her last loan helped build her business and increase her sales. Today she travels constantly to the rural communities to buy animals and resell them. Her need to increase her income to help her daughters succeed is why she is requesting and loan of 2000 Nuevos Soles through Edpyme Alternativa, to invest in the purchase of more animals to increase her sales.

She is mother who always gives everything to help her daughters succeed. Her greatest wish is to see her two daughters become successful professionals. She has shown punctuality and responsibility in the repayment of her previous loan.
