Patrick is 55 years old. He is married with 10 children between the ages of 7 and 31. Five of the children are currently attending school.
He is a farmer from Kitale town in Western Kenya. Patrick has been farming for 30 years and has two casual employees. His main product is milk and maize, which he sells to the local market. He is also employed as a teacher in the same area.
His biggest challenge in farming has been disease, which is a threat to his dairy cows.
Patrick has requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo of 62,400 KES to purchase and insure a dairy cow. This loan will enable him to acquire a quality dairy cow that will produce enough milk to sell and increase his income. He believes that the extra income from this loan will reduce his stress level caused by financial constraints.
In the future, he would like to increase his productivity by acquiring a high-yielding dairy cow.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
