Isidora, who you will see in the photo seated on the right side, is 48 years old and married with 2 children. 3 1/2 years ago she became a part of the group called Sarita Colonia, made up of 11 members who live in the zone of San Felipe in the district of Comas. Isidora was elected by her colleagues to be the president of the group. Isidora runs a small general store from her home. She began the business with a small loan, and little by little she reinvested the income from her sales. Her business has enabled her to help pay for her children's education. She has grown her business and also helped her husband with the costs of constructing their small house. Now she continues with all her efforts and hard work so that she'll be able to help her youngest daughter who will soon start her secondary studies. Isidora's portion of the loan will be used to purchase more inventory for her general store.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
