This committee was formed as a result of the women’s wish to be part of a communal group. One of the group members is Francisca who sells food, beverages, snacks, etc. in a small eatery in her home.

She rises very early in the morning to prepare her meals because customers start coming by her locale quite early. In the mornings she prepares breakfasts at special prices, she does the same during lunch. Thanks to her good customer service, she has a sizable regular customer base and thus good profits.

She is asking for funds to invest in her eatery; she plans to use the funds to buy glass display cases with warming lights installed to keep the food in good condition. She will also buy some merchandise she needs.

All the group members are grateful for the loans provided because they make the work that each one does easier.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
