This group called, “Mujeres del futuro” (Women of the Future) was formed in October 2009, in the city of Kambyreta, and is now in its third cycle.

The group began through conversations with other women, also working in the same zone. They are very satisfied and have demonstrated a strong desire to continue to move ahead with their work.

Clothing sales is a very common activity among the women in the Encarnación zone, and Lidia is one of them. She has been selling clothing since she began forming the group and she is very happy. Prior to this, she was a homemaker. Lidia buys her merchandise and travels to different parts of the zone to offer her merchandise door to door.

Her work requires lots of sacrifice, because she must walk and carry her items, but she tells us that she is happy to be able to help her family with the household expenses.

She is asking for this loan in order to buy additional inventory, such as sweats, shirts, pants, etc.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
