A loan of $725 helped buy guano for her crops.

Ruth's story

Ruth, who is 20 years old, lives in a rented house with her partner José Luis (24) and their young daughter Analí. Every day she looks after their crops of potato, peas, beans, corn and other vegetables from the early hours with her husband. They have been doing it for 3 years, after having learnt the agricultural techniques from their parents, who grew up in the fields they have now inherited. They also farm in leased farmland to produce more. She prefers growing tubers (potatoes) as she enjoys harvesting them from the furrows in the land and then selling them in the city market, where her clients know her for the quality of her crops. However, it's difficult for her to move her produce to the point of sale because the bags can be heavy.

They invest their business benefits and even get to save for the future, when they hope to build their own home and buy more farmland. This is the sixth time she applies for a MFP loan, and she is enthusiastic about continuing to work with her loan group because she likes the fact that all members are well organized. Ruth plans to invest the money requested in the purchase of 10 bags of guano to sow tubers successfully.
