Agnes is a married woman, aged 32 years, and has three children aged 12, 6 and 3 years. She and her husband share the responsibilities of their home of seven people.
Agnes operates a drug shop in Masindi, Uganda, and has been in the business for seven years now. After working in other people’s drug shops she decided to open up her own with the little capital she had.
Agnes maintains that a lack of capital and disruption by the government officials are the issues that affect her business sector but adds that she has a dream of having a big drug shop one day. In Uganda, most people find it easier buying drugs from drug shops and sometimes the regulations in the sector are not easy to meet, as sellers like Agnes say.
This is Agnes’s third loan and she is to use the loan funds to buy more drugs to sell in her drug shop.
