Mr. Nis Mang Village Bank Group
Mr. Nis M. is a fisherman. His wife, Mrs. Vannara Yoeurn, is a fish seller at her local market. Presently, Mr. Nis M. has some problems because his fishing net and fishing boat are broken. To improve this situation, Mr. Nis M. is applying for a loan to buy a new fishing net and fix his fishing boat. He is a father of four children, two of whom attend the local public school, while the others are too small to work or study.
On the day of the loan disbursement, Mr. Nis M. was busy working. His wife, Mrs. Vannara Yoeurn, received the loan for him, and the photo above shows Mr. Nis M.'s wife.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
