This village bank loan consists of 15 people who live in Srae Pou village in the Takeo province. Mrs. Koem Seng S. is the village bank president who was selected by the other members, all of whom will use a small piece of the loan for different purposes. She was born in 1980. Her position is a weaver at her home. Her husband Mr. Sokchea Toun is a farmer who owns a 3-hectare plot of land on which he grows rice to sell to support his family. Her problem is that her husband’s field has infertile soil and it is far away from an irrigation system. So to improve production, Mrs. Koem Seng S. is seeking a loan to buy fertilizer and gasoline.

She is a mother of three children, two of whom are attending a local public school, while the youngest one is 2 years old. Mrs. Net Choub is a group guaranty, so she is presented in the picture. All the members are shown in the picture but one of them is blocked.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
