Aperila Feata, 26 years old, runs a sewing business, and also looks after her grandparents. She charges less money for her seamstress services from customers that provide their own materials. Aperila's two sisters work at Yasaki, a nearby village, but they also do not make enough money to support the family. Aperila is looking for a better market to sell her services and is planning to use the US$300 loans to purchase fabrics, threads, needles and new parts for her sewing machine, so that she can expand her business by adding new clothing designs and fabrics.

JOURNAL FOR APERILA FEATA

Entrepreneur: Aperila Feata
Location: Apolima, Samoa

Aperila Feata is 39 years old and has 2 children. She is a member of Apolima A center which is located in Western Upolu. She has Handicraft business, which she has been engaged in for 3 years. The loan officer who is in charge of her center says Aperila is a very good member. She repays her loan on time, always attends her weekly meetings, and is enthusiastic about expanding her business.

She has used her previous loan to purchase equipments for her business. She says her business is doing well. On good days she makes 500 Tala a day (1Tala=0.4USD) and on bad days she makes 300 Tala a day. She also says that the Kiva loans and SPBD loans are not only helping her business grow, but also helping her pay her children’s school fees, feed her family better, and improve her housing.

When asked if she has any words to the Kiva lenders, she said “Aperila is a good member of Apolima A centre, she repays her loan on time and always attend weekly meeting. She used her previous loan to improve her business. She also thanks SBPD and Kiva for their great help.”
