Charles is 57 years old. He is married and has three children, age 22, 24 and 26 years old. One of his children is still attending school.
He is a farmer from Eastern Kenya near Nkubu town. He has been farming for ten years and his products are milk, pawpaw, bananas and mangoes that he sells to the local market. He also owns some rental houses in the same area. His biggest challenges in farming are lack of enough finances for expansion, poor infrastructure and low prices for his farm produce.
He has requested this loan from Juhudi Kilimo for 40,000 KES to construct a water tank to improve his banana plantation. The extra income from this loan will enable him to pay school fees for his children and to improve his family's standard of living. In the future, he hopes to be selling his farm produce to international markets and to acquire at least three high yielding milk cows.
He says that Juhudi Kilimo is the best organization for small scale farmers.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
