Aura Sofia
If you knew Señora Aura O., you’d know that she personifies “saleswoman.” Even though she doesn’t have machines, she sells little girls’ dresses and accessories to the size and preference of her customers. Her business is buying material and dressmaking supplies to send out to three seamstresses. The most fantastic dresses combined with the right accessories and adornments like headbands for hats and decorated binchas for girls who participate as nymphs, bridesmaids, or in birthdays, baptisms, elegant occasions, and special family events.

Through this system Aura sells her products on credit, and at a good price, because it is very clear to her that quality and price compete. Her customers are stores in Barranquilla and in many cities and municipalities of the Caribbean coast like Bosconia in the Department of Cesar, Cienaga in the Department of Magdalena, and Montería in the Department of Córdoba where she travels weekly bringing her products alongside her accounting book to collect her money.

She works extended hours and has progressed a lot since her first loan with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo to the present. Her sales have increased by 50% as well as her earnings and profits. Today she is taking out her third loan and wants to get ready for the high season (the second semester of the year) by buying wholesale raw materials and supplies like fabrics and decorations, paying in full, to be able to send out to have the best designs made.

Her goal, and great challenge, is to make her children professionals since the oldest graduates from high school this year and the youngest finishes grade school. She has to keep going as much as possible from her populous neighborhood, south of Barranquilla, very close to malls and the famous stadium where the city’s most beloved team “El Junior de Barranquilla” plays.
