She lives in the Lempira neighborhood of Juticalpa and is a member of the Las Tres Mariposas [the three butterflies] solidarity group. Three years ago Martha starting selling tortillas and little by little with the support of the loans from FAMA has grown her business. She now has a small grocery store that she runs out of her house. Her dream is that soon she will be able to convert to a mini supermarket and that her children will be successful and continue their studies.

With the previous loans she started to build a wall around her house but she didn't have enough money to finish it. With this new loan she will buy chicken wire, metal posts and blocks and bags of.cement to finish building the wall.

When the wall is finished Martha and her family will feel much safer, their home will be more beautiful and her clients will feel that her store has a more agreeable location. Martha has been a good client of FAMA's and has always made her payments on time.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
