Twenty-two people make up a village bank loan located in Ba Srae village in Takeo province. Mrs. Sreu P. is the village bank president, selected by the other members who will each use their share of the loan for different purposes.

Mrs. Sreu P. owns a general store in the local village to earn some money to support her family. Her husband, Mr. Nouv S., is a farmer who owns a half-hectare of land to cultivate rice to sell to support his family. The field is ready for farming but they do not have enough money to support it. To improve production, Mrs. Sreu P. is seeking a loan to buy rice seed and to start a new business breeding pigs. The couple supports three children, two of whom are seamstresses in a garment factory, while the other attends the local public school.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
